Bit1 in anoikis resistance and tumor metastasis

► Bit1 is a mitochondrial protein which is a part of an apoptosis pathway that is regulated by integrin-mediated cell attachment. ► Following loss of cell attachment, Bit1 is released to cytosol and induces a caspase-independent form of apoptosis. ► As an anoikis effector, Bit1 may function to turn off the anti-apoptotic TLE1-mediated transcriptional program. ► Accumulating evidences indicate that the Bit1 anoikis pathway may regulate the metastatic proficiency of malignant cells.
