Rebuilding MTOCs upon centriole loss during mouse oogenesis

In growing oocytes, microtubules are nucleated and loosely organized by PCM disseminated in the cytoplasm. Microtubules and PCM progressively self-organize and generate larger PCM foci. At the end of the growth phase, competent oocytes are characterized by perinuclear MTOCs that generate large microtubules asters irradiating from the nucleus to the periphery of the cell. Upon meiosis resumption, perinuclear MTOCs redistribute. They elongate in large invaginations of the nucleus envelope and then into punctate structures that evenly surround the condensed chromosomes at NEBD. 294
