Inhibition of p53 after acute myocardial infarction: Reduction of apoptosis is counteracted by disturbed scar formation and cardiac rupture

►PFTa blocks p53 activity and attenuates H2O2-induced cardiac apoptosis in vitro. ►PFTa significantly reduces the number of apoptotic cardiomyocytes after acute MI. ►Administration of PFTa increases infarct size and reduces 7-day survival rate. ►PFTa leads to adverse remodeling of infarct area after MI.
