Effect of chronic l-DOPA treatment on 5-HT1A receptors in parkinsonian monkey brain

► Parkinsonian and dyskinetic monkeys show regional changes of brain 5-HT1A receptors. ► Striatal 5-HT turnover increased with l-DOPA regardless of the dyskinetic status. ► Cortical 5-HT1A receptors were lower in parkinsonian monkeys compared to controls. ► l-DOPA increased 5-HT1A receptors in the hippocampus and the cortex. ► Ro 61-8048 prevented the l-DOPA-induced 5-HT1A receptors increase in motor cortex.
