Vertical and horizontal transmission of nest site preferences in titmice

► We demonstrate transmission of nest site choice in two species of birds. ► Both vertical and horizontal transmission of learning was involved. ► We compared natal and breeding site, and cross-fostered birds between species. ► Study species were two passerines, the great tit and the blue tit.
