Nocturnal passerine migrants fly faster in spring than in autumn: a test of the time minimization hypothesis

► We have tracked migrating passerine birds by radar at two sites in Sweden. ► We show faster airspeeds during spring migration than autumn migration. ► We suggest that this is an effect of different selection pressures. ► Time constraints could dominate spring migration while energy constrains autumn migration.
