El aspecto progresivo en las lenguas mayas

ResumenEl aspecto progresivo en las lenguas modernas de la familia lingüística maya tiene algunos rasgos sintácticos que lo distinguen considerablemente de otras categorías aspectuales. Se destacan cuatro grupos de lenguas dentro de la familia maya según los medios usados para formar construcciones progresivas. Semánticamente, aparte del significado primario, el aspecto progresivo también tiene varios significados secundarios, entre los cuales se destacan: habitual, prospectivo y perfecto. Expresando el significado habitual, el progresivo tiende a convertirse en el imperfectivo. Al mismo tiempo puede marcar todos los tipos de estados, precedentes, concomitantes o derivados de la acción. Se presenta un análisis comparativo de estos rasgos semánticos de progresivo dentro de las lenguas mayas.

The progressive aspect in the modern languages of the Mayan linguistic family has some syntactic features that distinguishes it considerably from other aspect categories. There are four groups of languages in the Mayan family that use different means to form a progressive construction. From the semantic standpoint, besides its primary meaning, the progressive aspect has also some secondary ones, including habitual, prospective, and perfect. Expressing habitual actions, the progressive aspect tends to turn into an imperfective marker. At the same time, it shows a clear tendency to express all kinds of states that precede, accompany or follow the action. A comparative analysis of these semantic features of progressive among the Mayan languages is presented in this paper.
