Influence of the energy of charge transfer on non-covalent interactions between fullerenes and a designed bisporphyrin

► The present article introduces a newly designed bisporphyrin molecule, 1. ► For the first time, fullerene-bisporphyrin CT phenomenon is studied in solution. ► 1 The molecules do not serve as effective molecular tweezers for fullerene in solution. ► Evidence in favor of the formation of fullerene− and bisporphyrin+ species is presented. ► Binding of fullerenes with 1 is clearly demonstrated by MMMF calculations.
