Synthesis, spectroscopic, photoluminescence properties and biological evaluation of novel Zn(II) and Al(III) complexes of NOON tetradentate Schiff bases

► Novel Zn(II) and Al(III) salen complexes were synthesized and fully characterized. ► The complexes exhibited intense fluorescence at room temperature. ► The complexes are promising candidates as photoactive materials and anion carriers. ► The novel complexes exhibited remarkable antimicrobial activities.
