Investigation of the effect of mechanical pressure on the performance of negative lead accumulator electrodes during partial state of charge operation

► Mechanical pressure prologs the cycle life of carbon-doped negative electrodes. ► The same effect was observed with electrodes containing no expanders. ► Similar results were obtained with electrodes doped with titanium dioxide. ► Doping with carbon seems preferable to doping with titanium dioxide. ► The cathodic reduction process on lead was more rapid than the anodic one.
