• New silicon source GPTMS is used to modify Si–O–Si-[dema][TfO] glass membrane.
• The hybrid membrane isn't glass when the TEOS/GPTMS optimal ratio is 4:5.
• All hybrid membranes' thermal decomposition temperature is above 200 °C.
• The conductivity of 10− 3 S/cm was obtained for 40% ILs doped hybrid membranes.
New silicon source 3-Glycidyloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (GPTMS) is used to modify the Si–O–Si–ionic liquid ([dema][TfO]) glass hybrid membranes by a sol-gel method. FT-IR and TG analyses have showed that hydrogen bonding should be present between the [dema][TfO] molecules and the Si–O–Si skeleton structure. The tenacity of hybrid membranes are dramatically influenced by GPTMS. The hybrid membrane isn’t glass when the tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS)/GPTMS optimal ratio is 4:5. In this ratio, TG/DSC analyses have indicated that these hybrid membranes' thermal decomposition temperature is above 200 °C. The conductivity of material under anhydrous conditions has been determined to be 10− 3 S/cm at 220 °C.
