Some new mixed triorganoantimony(III) compounds bearing pentafluorophenyl and hydrocarbon based organic groups of the type R2R′Sb (where R = C6F5, R′ = CH3, C6H4CH3-p, C6H5; R = C6H5, R′ = C6F5) were synthesized using either appropriate organomagnesium halide and pentafluorophenylantimony(III) chloride or pentafluorophenylmagnesium bromide and organoantimony(III) chloride. These derivatives undergo oxidative-addition reaction with halogens (Br, Cl) yielding corresponding triorganoantimony(V) dihalides. The van’t Hoff factor ‘i’ and molar conductance data of these compounds revealed them to be monomeric and non-conducting in nature. The compounds were characterized by the elemental analysis, IR, NMR (1H, 13C and 19F) and FAB mass analysis.
Compounds of the type (C6F5)nSb(III)R3−n [R = CH3, C6H4CH3-p, C6H5] have been synthesized by using grignard reactions and their oxidative addition reactions with Cl2 or Br2 carried out, which afford corresponding (C6F5)nSb(V)R3−nX2 [X = Cl or Br] derivatives. The compounds were characterized by the micro-analysis, IR, NMR (1H, 13C and 19F) and FAB mass analysis.Figure optionsDownload as PowerPoint slide
