An efficient microwave processing method has been developed for the synthesis of novel metal-free phthalocyanine and metallophthalocyanines containing 1,2,4-triazole-3-one derivatives under microwave irradiation in solvent-free conditions. The advantage of this new method includes excellent yield, operational simplicity, short reaction time and avoidance of the use of organic solvents. New compounds have been characterized by several spectral methods such as FT-IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, electronic spectroscopy, mass spectra and elemental analyses. The thermal stabilities of these new phthalocyanines were determined by thermogravimetric analysis. For the purposes of comparing data, the reactions were carried out in solution media both under microwave irradiation and in the conventional method.
A fast and effective procedure was developed for the synthesis of bulky substituted metal-free phthalocyanines and metallophthalocyanines. The present procedure described in this paper demonstrated that microwave processing combined with solvent-free condition leads to shorter reaction time, higher yield, a clean reaction product and easier work-up than classical thermal processing.Figure optionsDownload as PowerPoint slide
