Neutral heteroleptic cobalt complexes [CoL2L′] (L′ = 2,2′-bipyridine or 1,10-phenanthroline) with the anionic form of a series of methyl-substituted N-2-pyridylsulfonamide ligands (HL) have been synthesized by the electrochemical oxidation of the metal in an acetonitrile solution of the sulfonamide ligand and the corresponding coligand L′. The compounds were characterized by microanalysis, vibrational and electronic spectroscopy and some examples by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The crystal structures of the compounds show the metal in a distorted octahedral geometry, [N6] or [N4O2], that depends on the position of the substituent on the pyridine ring.
The complexes [CoL2L′] (L′ = 2,2′-bipyridine or 1,10-phenanthroline) have been synthesized by the electrochemical oxidation of anodic metal in acetonitrile solutions of the appropriate methyl-substituded N-2-pyridylsulfonamide ligand (HL) ligand and the corresponding coligand L′. The crystal structures of the compounds show the metal in a distorted octahedral geometry, [N6] or [N4O2], that depends on the position of the substituent on the pyridine ring.Figure optionsDownload as PowerPoint slide
