Coordination of copper (I) and (II) salts to melamine (Mel) produces [CuX(Mel)] [X = Cl (5a), Br (5b), I (5c), NO3 (5d)], [CuX2(Mel)2] · S [X = Cl, S = H2O (6a); X = Cl, S = 2 MeOH (6b); X = Br, S = 1/2H2O (6c); X = OAc, S = none (6d)], and [Cu(OAc)2(Mel)] (7). The chemical identity of the complexes has been confirmed by elemental analysis, X-ray powder diffraction, thermogravimetry, and infrared analysis.
