Cobaltpolyoxometalate-catalyzed cyclization of glucal with aryl amines: Synthesis of 2,4-disubstituted tetrahydroquinolines

Treatment of 3,4,6-tri-O-acetyl-d-glucal (1) with various aryl amines in the presence of dodecatungstocobaltate under mild and neutral conditions gave sugar derived tetrahydroquinoline derivates.
