A new, rapid, high-throughput corrosion testing method is described, together with a computerised optical analysis method for quantification of the corrosion data. The method is described and demonstrated for aluminium alloy AA2024-T3. The test solutions were 10−1–10−6 M NaCl and 0.1 M NaCl with 10−3–10−7 M K2Cr2O7. Up to 88 simultaneous corrosion tests can be carried out on a single 100 × 75 mm plate, including controls. Testing and analysis of all samples can be completed in approximately one day. Multiple tests on multiple plates are used to show the reproducibility of the technique.

► New high-throughput corrosion technique, demonstrated on AA2024-T3.
► Eighty-eight simultaneous inhibitor experiments can be tested and analysed in approximately one day.
► New semi-quantitative optical analysis technique.
► Good reproducibility on the same plate and between plates.
► Good agreement with standard mass-loss immersion experiments over both 24 h and 28 days.
