Superconducting Y-doped (Tl1-xYx)Ba2Ca2Cu3O10-δ samples are synthesized by a solid-state reaction method and characterized by X-ray diffraction, DC resistivity (ρ), AC susceptibility (χac) and Fourier transform infrared absorption spectroscopy. The suppression of zero resistivity critical temperature (Tc (R = 0)) and the magnitude of diamagnetism is most likely due to the reduced efficiency with which (Tl1-xYx)Ba2O4-δ charge reservoir layer supplies the carriers to the CuO2 planes. The localization at Y3+ reduces the number of carriers in the CuO2 planes and thereby promotes antiferromagnetism, which is fatal for superconductivity.
