Three-dimensional normal grain growth: Monte Carlo Potts model simulation and analytical mean field theory

By means of extensive Monte Carlo Potts model simulations it is shown that three-dimensional normal grain growth can adequately be described by an average scaled growth law, which is a quadratic function of the relative grain size. A generalized analytic mean-field theory based on this growth law yields a scaled grain size distribution function that is in excellent agreement with the simulation results.
