Synthesis of ultra-small Si/Ge semiconductor nano-particles using electrochemistry

► Ultra-small Si/Ge nano-particles are obtained through electrochemical anodization. ► The sizes of the Si/Ge nano-particles are 1-3 nm, obtained from TEM images. ► Blue, green, yellow/orange and red emissions are observed upon UV excitation. ► Nano-particles could be used in multi-band opto-electronic device applications.
