A novel green phosphor Sr2ZnMoO6:Tb3+ is synthesized by a high temperature solid-state method at 1250 °C in air, and its luminescent property is investigated. The phase characterization of Sr2ZnMoO6:Tb3+ is carried out with X-ray powder diffraction analysis, and the results indicate that there has no crystalline phases other than Sr2ZnMoO6. Sr2ZnMoO6:Tb3+ shows green light under the 376 nm radiation excitation, and the prominent luminescence in green (543 nm) due to the 5D4–7F5 transition of Tb3+. For the 543 nm emission, the excitation spectrum has one broad band and several narrow excitation bands, and the peaks locate at 285, 330, 350, 357, 367 and 376 nm, respectively. The emission intensity of Sr2ZnMoO6:Tb3+ can be influenced by the Tb3+ doping concentration, and can be achieved the maximum at 0.08 Tb3+. Moreover, the concentration quenching effect of Tb3+ in Sr2ZnMoO6:Tb3+ can be observed. The CIE color coordinates of Sr2ZnMoO6:Tb3+ show the almost same results with the different Tb3+ concentration, and locate in the green region.
