A polarizing color filter based on subwavelength metallic grating with grooves carved in the wires is investigated using the finite-difference-time-domain (FDTD) method. Three different devices are designed based on the transmission characteristics under different geometrical parameters: the maximum transmittances are 69.7%, 74.8% and 65.3%, the extinction ratios at the transmission peak wavelength are 148, 70 and 41, and the full widths at half-maximum (FWHM) are 101 nm, 90 nm and 107 nm, respectively. The structure not only obtains a high transmittance, broad bandwidth and desirable extinction ratio, but also suppresses redundant spectral peaks and transmission sidebands. Therefore, it provides a new reference for the design of color filters.
