Aspherical anamorphic lens for shaping laser diode beam

We propose a novel method to fabricate aspherical anamorphic lenses at very low costs. A droplet made of UV-curable negative photoresist is placed on an asymmetrical substrate and cured when its surface shape evolves to be aspherical due to electrostatic force and meets the designed optimal shape. Both numerical analysis and experimental results are presented, showing that the fabricated lens has different optical powers in the two transverse directions and can collimate the divergent beam generated by a laser diode in the fast-axis direction with high energy efficiency.
