Plasmon hybridization in trimeric meta-molecules with broken spatial inversion symmetry

We demonstrate the plasmon hybridization in a meta-molecules array composed of three identical split ring resonators (SRRs) in each unit. A plasmon hybridization resonant mode characterized by an admixture of electric dipole and quadrupole is observed, which origins from the electromagnetic interactions among the meta-atoms. This resonant mode is sensitive to the variation of spatial inversion symmetry determined by SRRs arrangement. Particularly, it can be tuned by changing the configuration of unit cell. The result means the spatial inversion symmetry of unit cell strongly influence the plasmonic coupling in the trimerical structure, offering an additional degree of freedom to control the electromagnetic interaction in metamaterials.
