Interferometer as detector

Optical absorption measurements based on interferometry are ultimately limited by loss and noise. When these effects are taken into account, the gain reaches a maximum at a certain number of feedback cycles, which characterizes the device. Since more cycles only lowers the gain, interaction-free measurement is unachievable using this technique.
