Circularly polarized fluorescence from light-emitting microcavities with sculptured-thin-film chiral reflectors

A light-emitting microcavity with sculptured-thin-film (STF) chiral reflectors is fabricated to produce narrowband circularly polarized (CP) light. The device is composed of a layer of fluorescent molecules (Alq3) sandwiched between two STF chiral reflectors to form a resonant microcavity with CP-selectivity, which emits narrowband left CP (LCP) and right CP (RCP) light upon photoexcitation. Our results also indicate the possibility of developing STF reflector-based diode laser devices delivering pure and controllable circular polarization.
