Analysis of the Raman gain distribution as a technique to determine longitudinal PMD distribution in optical fibers

In this paper, we present and analyze a new longitudinal polarization mode dispersion distribution indicator technique based on the longitudinal Raman gain distribution measurement by OTDR. Measurement principles are presented along with experimental results obtained in two fibers with different PMD values.
