Modelling of angular effects in nonlinear optical processes

Two different methods for studying transverse effects in nonlinear optical interactions are compared, and their strengths and weaknesses discussed. The simpler split-step approach is found to be less restricted in its capabilities and computationally more efficient. A number of interesting results obtained using this technique are presented.
