The effect of plasticity theory on predicted residual stress fields in numerical weld analyses

► In the current study we present a numerical analysis of three-pass slot weld. ► We studied the effect of the plasticity theory on the predicted residual stresses. ► We showed that the isotropic hardening model over-predict residual stresses. ► We showed that the kinematic hardening model slightly under-predict residual stresses. ► We found the mixed isotropic-kinematic hardening model accurately predict residual stresses.
