A micromechanical damage simulation of dual phase steels using XFEM

► Damage onset and progression modelling of a DP steel using XFEM and damage curve. ► Influence of mesh size dependency on damage onset and evolution was studied. ► Damage firstly occurred in the enriched martensite. ► This resulted in a damage onset in the ferritic phase because of strain localisation. ► Later, ductile damage governed the damage progression throughout the microstructure.
