Microstructures and microhardness evolutions of melt-spun Al-8Ni-5Nd-4Si alloy

► Rapid solidification allows a reduction in grain size, extended solid solution ranges. ► We observed the matrix lattice parameter increases with increasing wheel speed. ► Melt-spun ribbons consist of partly amorphous phases embedded in crystalline phases. ► The solidification rate is high enough to retain most of alloying elements in the Al matrix. ► The rapid solidification has effect on the phase constitution.
