Synthesis and characterization of ZnO microstructures via a cationic surfactant-assisted hydrothermal microemulsion process

► Hexagonal cylinder-like ZnO with twinning microstructure was prepared. ► Water/surfactant ratio exhibits obvious influence on the morphology and size of ZnO. ► An aggregation mechanism of the ZnO microstructures has been proposed.
