Enhanced grain refinement of an Al-Mg-Si alloy by high-pressure torsion processing at 100 °C

► A HPT processing at 100 °C can provide the smallest average grain size in an Al alloy. ► The grain refinement is due to the enhanced segregation of solutes at gain boundaries. ► Optimising HPT processing temperature is a key to enhance the grain refinement.
