Microstructure and mechanical properties of Al-xMg alloys processed by room temperature ECAP

► Al-xMg alloys processed by room temperature ECAP have been investigated. ► Magnesium addition to aluminum promotes the grain refinement. ► Misorientation increase induced by particles along grain boundaries is observed. ► Optimization of strength and ductility has been obtained by annealed ECAP. ► Softening mechanism of Al-6 Mg alloy after ECAP changes within 523-573 K.
