Effect of eutectics on plastic deformation and subsequent recrystallization in the single crystal nickel base superalloy CMSX-4

► Deformation of a single crystal superalloy was studied by EBSD and TEM. ► Residual strain distribution in single crystal superalloys could be determined. ► Severe deformation was created in interdendritic regions. ► Dislocation distribution was consistent with recrystallization process.
