A simple but effective FE model with plastic shot for evaluation of peening residual stress and its experimental validation

► We set up a simple but effective FE model for evaluation of peening residual stress. ► We obtained the impact velocity needed for FEA based on the arc height and coverage. ► The FE solution obtained by the model is quite close to the experimental XRD result. ► The model provides result comparable with endeavored 3D multi-impact FE solution.
