Flow mechanisms in ultrafine-grained metals with an emphasis on superplasticity

► Flow behavior of ultrafine-grained metals at high temperatures is consistent with conventional coarse-grained materials. ► Excellent agreement between experiments and theory for ultrafine-grained Al alloys, Mg alloys and a Zn-Al alloy. ► Behavior is different at low temperatures where there is small-scale grain boundary sliding.
