Study of formation behavior of ZrC in the Fe-Zr-C system during combustion synthesis

► ZrC particles were prepared by SHS reaction in the Fe-Zr-C powder mixtures. ► With increasing Fe contents, the sizes of ZrC particles are about 100 nm. ► The formation path of ZrC particles was discussed. ► The addition of Fe promotes the SHS reaction.
