Cerium phosphate (CePO4) and Terbium doped Cerium phosphate (Tb doped CePO4) nanoparticles were synthesized at 180̊C for different reaction times (6 hrs and12 hrs) by refluxing in water medium. The obtained hydrated samples were dried and then calcinated at 700̊C for 1hr. The morphology of the calcinated samples were characterized by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). The SEM results indicated that CePO4 and Tb doped CePO4 were in nano sized particles. The particle size and structures of the products were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), the functional groups were confirmed by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), and band gap was calculated by UV-visible spectroscopy. Thermal behaviour of the as prepared samples was studied by using Thermo Gravimetric Analysis (TGA). Photoluminescence (PL) properties of both CePO4 and Tb doped CePO4 nanoparticles have been investigated and reported.
