Characterization of SnO2 Nanoparticles in the Traditionally Prepared Ayurvedic Medicine

The metal oxide nanoparticles have wide variety of applications in fields such as medicine (for drug delivery and diagnostic), information technology, catalysis, energy storage and sensing because of their excellent electrical and optical properties. The SnO2 nanoparticles are present in the traditionally prepared Ayurvedic medicine “Vanga Bhasma” are very much useful for the treatment. In this medicine metals and minerals converted into very fine and absorbable particles are therapeutically most effective and are present in non-toxic form. The SnO2 nanoparticles were characterized by studying their particle size, crystal structure, morphology, composition and zeta potential. Particle size and zeta potential measurements were done using Horiba SZ-100 nanoparticle analyzer. The particle size of the nanoparticles is found in the range of 10-100 nm and SnO2 particles has high zeta potential. The crystal structure and morphology were analyzed using XRD and SEM. The elemental analysis of SnO2 is done by EDAX and found that the constituent elements are nearly stoichiometric.
