The present study aims to develop Ti incorporated glass-ceramics for bone grafting application with sufficient biological properties along with antimicrobial efficiency to resist common pathogens that are common cause for implant failure. The Structural properties of glass-ceramics were investigated by X-ray Diffraction and Scanning electron microscope. FTIR and AAS were employed to elucidate the bioactivity of glass-ceramics and modified Kirby Bauer method was used to evaluate antimicrobial activity of glass-ceramics against Staph.aureus and Strep. Pyogenes bacteria. The addition of titanium shifted nucleation temperature and crystallization temperature towards higher temperatures, replacement of Si with Ti enhanced both bulk density and compressive strength, and it showed positive effect on antibacterial activity of glass-ceramics when high concentration of Ti was substituted in the system. Ti retarded the in vitro apatite forming ability all glass-ceramic samples formed apatite layer after 21 days of soaking in stimulated body fluid.
