Fabrication of Copper Oxide Nanoparticles by Sol-gel Route

Structural and magnetic studies on CuO nanoparticles prepared by sol-gel route are reported. Evolution of structure, magnetic properties and optical absorption analysis of these nanoparticles were studied using X-ray diffraction (XRD), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) and UV-Visible spectrophotometer. XRD analysis indicated that the crystallite size is of the order of 25.1 nm for the copper oxide nanoparticle annealed at 1000 ˚C. The role of oxygen vacancies is to generate free carriers mediating ferromagnetism between Cu spins.
