Synthesis and Characterization of La0.75Sr0.25Mn1-xMgxO3-δ Perovskite for Alkaline Fuel Cell

La0.75Sr0.25Mn1-xMgxO3-δ (LSMMg) perovskite material was produced at x=0-0.8 by solution combustion method using tartaric acid as chelating agent and fuel. Perovskite material was obtained after calcination of gels in air at temperature of 800 °C for 3 hours. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis confirmed the formation of perovskite phase for all x=0-0.8. The XRD line broadening analysis showed that particle size of LSM decreased from 100 nm to 28-50 nm by doping of Mg from x=0-0.8. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy of sintered pellets of LSMMg produced at x = 0-0.8 in 0.5 M KOH solution represented the increased adsorption of hydroxyl ions in perovskite structure. The results suggest that LSMMg (x=0.5) perovksite is promising anode material for alkaline fuel cells as it can promote oxygen evolution reaction.
