• Synthesis of Ag0 nanoparticles using Myrmecodia pendan extract was reported.
• The synthesis procedure was very simple and has eco-friendly route.
• The particles of Ag0 are nearly spherical with nano scale in size (ca. 10–20 nm).
• Flavonoids compounds were mainly responsible for the Ag0 nanoparticles formation.
Bio-synthesis of silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) from silver nitrate solution using water extract of Myrmecodia pendan (Sarang Semut plant) at room condition was succesfully carried out. Visually observed on the change of the reaction solution from colorless to dark brown after the addition of M. pendan water extract indicated the formation of the Ag-NPs. The Ag-NPs obtained were characterized by UV–vis, XRD, FT-IR, SEM and TEM. The typical surface plasmon resonance of the Ag-NPs was observed and centered at around 448 nm. The structural phase of the Ag-NPs was found in the form of face centered cubic (fcc) and the particle size was estimated in the range of 10–20 nm.
At room temperature, a bio-synthesis of silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) using water extract of M. pendan was succesfully carried out via simple, fast and eco-friendly route. The addition of the water extract has changed the color of the reaction solution, showing that the Ag-NPs was succesfully formed. The water soluble flavonoids in the water extract were responsible in the reduction of Ag+ to Ag0 nanoparticles. The size of the Ag-NPs was estimated in the range of 10–20 nm.Figure optionsDownload as PowerPoint slide
