The regular and uniform size of Ag–Cu2O heterojunction nanorods have been successfully fabricated inside the nanochannels of AAO template by using the template-based electrochemical deposition technique. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) indicate that the as-synthesized samples are composed of face-centered cubic Ag and Cu2O. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and the corresponding fast Fourier transformation (FFT) results show that Ag segments have a preferred orientation along the [111] direction, whereas Cu2O segments have a preferred orientation along the [200] direction. Room temperature photoluminescence (PL) spectrum of Ag–Cu2O heterojunctions exhibited UV emission band at 383 nm which could be attributed to the efficient coupling of incident radiation to the surface plasmon of the Ag particles.
