Triangular Mn-doped CdS nanowires (NWs) were prepared by thermal evaporation of a mixture of CdS and MnCl2. The morphologies and detailed structures were characterized by a scanning electron microscope, X-ray diffraction, and transmission electron microscope. The Mn concentration plays an important role in synthesis of the triangular NWs. The morphologies can be varied from hexagonal to triangular by adjusting the amount of MnCl2 in the reaction mixture. The oriented attachment mechanism is demonstrated to be the most suitable mechanism to explain the growth process of the triangular NWs. The photoluminescence shows the intensity of Mn2+ emission peak increases as the molar ratio of MnCl2increases.
