Interplay of charge and spin ordering in Pr0.65Ca0.35−xSrxMnO3

Different phase transitions are observed in polycrystalline Pr0.65Ca0.35−xSrxMnO3 (x = 0-0.35) manganites from the temperature (10-300 K) and magnetic field (0-8 T) dependent resistivity and magnetization data. Replacement of Ca by Sr induces the ferromagnetic metallic (FMM) phase by the melting of the antiferromagnetic/charge ordered insulating (AF/CO-I) phases. The magnetoresistance ratio (MRR) is found to be maximum in samples with coexistent FMM and AF/CO-I phases and minimum in samples with either FMM or AF/CO-I phase. Thermal and magnetic hysteresis of resistivity as well as magnetization can be well explained on the basis of the interplay of charge and spin ordering.
