The mechanical properties of magnesium matrix composites reinforced with (TiB2 + TiC) ceramic particulates

Magnesium matrix composite reinforced with 3.9 vol.% (TiB2 + TiC) particulate was in-situ synthesized using remelting and dilution (RD) technique successfully. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis and microstructural characterization of the sintered blocks revealed the formation and uniform distribution of fine reinforcements. Microstructural characterization and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) analysis of the composite material revealed retention and uniform distribution of fine reinforcement. Mechanical property characterization revealed an increase in average values of modulus, 0.2% yield strength and ultimate tensile strength of composite when compared to T4 heat-treated AZ91 while the ductility was adversely affected.
