Pure titanium and titanium deuteride targets have been bombarded with deuterium ion beam with current intensity of 0.6 mA at energy of 240 keV. Neutron yield as a function of bombarding time is measured with associated particles method. Experimental results show that neutron yield of titanium deuteride target is several times higher than that of pure titanium and the degradation of target in this study has not been observed. Profiles of irradiation defects in the targets have been examined by slow positron annihilation technique. Experimental result shows that the concentration of radiation defects is evidently enhanced after bombardment and the contributions for it are discussed in detail.
► Neutron yield was detected with associated particles method.
► Profile of defects in targets was studied by slow positron annihilation.
► Experimental profile of defects differs from that obtained with SRIM.
