Surface modification of Mg67-Zn30-Y3 quasicrystal alloy by high current pulsed electron beam

► The HCPEB-treated Mg67-Zn30-Y3 quasicrystal alloy is first researched. ► Mg largely dissolved in matrix, causing the formation of a supersaturated solid solution. ► A nano-structured quasicrystal layer has been realized through HCPEB technique. ► HCPEB treatment leads to a further improvement in wear resistance of the alloy surface.
